Master Chief Dyer hails from Castro Valley, California where he entered the Navy May of 1983.  Following recruit training in San Diego, CA he graduated with honors from Builder “A” school and went on to Naval Air Station Willow Grove, PA for a two-year tour with the Public Works Department.

 

During his first sea duty assignment to NMCB 74, he deployed to Guam and Greece.  After returning from his second ten-month deployment, he interviewed and was selected to instruct Specialized Construction Battalion Training classes at Naval Construction Training Center in Gulfport, MS.

 

In July 1989, he was selected to become a recruiter and was assigned to Naval Recruiting District Louisville, KY.  While there, he qualified as a Recruiter-In-Charge and was put in charge of his own station.  After completing a successful three-year tour in recruiting, he was sent to his first overseas tour.

 

Reporting to Naval Support Facility Brawdy Wales, he was assigned as the Builder Shop Head.  While stationed there he earned the designation as Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist and, in September 1994, he was promoted to Chief.

 

Desiring to return to battalion, he left Brawdy in July 1995 and reported to NMCB FOUR where he was assigned as Charlie Company Operations Chief.  After spending seven months deployed to Okinawa he was selected as the only enlisted Officer in Charge and deployed to Naval Station Pascagoula for the construction of a new Navy Exchange.

 

In November 1997, he reported to Naval Support Facility Thurmont, MD better known as Camp David the Presidential Retreat, was assigned as the Environmental and Engineering Leading Chief Petty Officer, and was selected by the command as their East Coast Recruiter.  In January 1999, he earned his Associates Degree in Construction Management and in April, he was promoted to Senior Chief.

 

In November 2000, he reported to the Thirtieth Naval Construction Regiment staff as the Far East Operations Chief and later deployed with them for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM as Task Force Charlie’s Operations Chief from December 2002 to July 2003.

 

Returning to battalion November 2003, he reported to NMCB FIVE as the S3C, Command Operations Chief.  Joining the battalion on deployment in Okinawa, he returned to homeport and then deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as the Deputy Commander for Special Operations Joint Task Force (DELTA FORCE) and was promoted to Master Chief.

 

Master Chief Dyer reported to the Senior Enlisted Academy Newport, RI in August 2006 as a Facilitator.  After completing the Command Master Chief course in December 2007, he returned to Camp David where he is was assigned as the Command Master Chief of the Presidential Retreat.

 

Master Chief Dyer finished his 28-year naval career having met all five living Presidents as well as having worked directly for the last three.

 

Master Chief Dyer’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), the Good Conduct Medal (6 awards), Presidential Service Badge, Master Training Specialist, Seabee Combat Warfare pin and various other service and unit awards.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and is a graduate of U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy Class 110 Khaki.
